On Lake Verret, southwest of Baton Rouge, we maneuvered our fishing boat along shores sprinkled with nature's living stalagmites -- the knees of cypress trees.

Not all the roadside crab sellers around Lake Verret were out. Rob found a place, and we picked crabs for a late lunch on Friday.

Rob set out some jug lines Friday evening, and on Saturday morning one of the lines yielded our dinner, a catfish of two dozen pounds or so.
