Jazz Week: Athens GA

I'm the editor and publisher of a jazz newsletter for Athens GA, and my latest issue is up. Photograph: Guitarist Eric Mellan. Eric performs with his combo, A Sharp Turn, at the Athens Farmers Market downtown adjacent to Little Kings Shuffle Club on Tuesday afternoon around 4:00 p.m. Bob Brussack.

Indigo Girl

Here's a date change for all of us Marty Winkler fans. Marty had been set to perform at the Indigo Hotel's Phi Bar for the Live After Five series this coming Thursday, July 15, with Mitch Rothstein on keys. The gig has been moved to the next Thursday, July 22, and Michael Steele will accompany on bass. 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. No cover. I don't know yet who's taking the July 15 slot, and I don't know whether the hotel has rescheduled Gwen Hughes, who was to perform on July 22. Photograph by Bob Brussack.

Here Come the Half Dozen

I've been trying to reconnect with our jazz scene after some weeks away. The Half Dozen, it turns out, have been busy with the bookings. Here's the lowdown from their website. On Friday, August 13, at 10 p.m. they'll be upstairs at the Globe. $3 cover. On Thursday, September 16, at the Melting Point it's the guys' Official Release Party for "Easy Street," their first CD. Time and ticket prices TBA. And on Monday, October 18, they'll bring down the curtain on Ashford Manor's 10th anniversary season of "Concerts on the Lawn" in Watkinsville. $15 adults. $12 with student ID. $5 kids.
